Beetroot crop 2026 starting to emerge
April 20, 2026
A look back at Greens of Soham – from 1966
July 1, 2026In 1966, two brothers, John and Andrew Green, decided to start growing vegetables in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Initially, they grew crops such as celery and carrots, before gradually expanding the range to include parsnips, potatoes, beetroot, onions and more.
Greens became a name synonymous with the local area and soon began employing large numbers of people, supporting local communities and establishing itself as one of the leading fresh produce providers.
Over the last 60 years, the people have changed, the company structure has evolved and the crops have continued to change, but one thing has remained the same – the values. While these values may have been expressed differently over the years, they have always centred on encouraging new employees, building trust and fostering collaboration – both with each other and, just as importantly, with those outside Greens.
To mark our 60th anniversary, on Friday 12 June we held an employee day at Hasse for all our teams. We received updates from the Farming, Seed, Commercial, Technical and Finance teams, as well as hearing about a variety of projects, including those focused on water management and washing processes.
On Saturday 13 June, we hosted a celebration for employees, their families and former colleagues. It was fantastic to bring together so many familiar and new faces. There was plenty of fun and laughter throughout the day and, as the celebrations continued, the music started and the dancing began.
